LEASED! The unconventional house at Joo Chiat

Before enclosure.

Description

A one-of-a-kind house nestled among the conservation houses.

Sitting on a land of 1389sf. Built of approx 2400sf.
A charming 2-storey house.
3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms & 1 ensuite shower.

Exterior has been painted a cool coat of white with black trimmings and a grey-top roof. Such subtlety. So inviting. A beautiful front porch laid with hand-made ceramic peranakan tiles and a little garden with a frangipani tree greet you as you enter. Entrance is fitted with 2 sets of retro-styled wooden bi-fold doors.

The interior is amazing. Open plan. Chic & undeniably stylish. There’s a breakfast/ bar counter at the edge of the kitchen. Such a great looking kitchen, fitted with black cooktop, black oven and a “Chimney” hood. The classic subway tile as a backdrop coupled with matt black floor tiles make the perfect combination. The cabinets in a soft shade of blue looks striking against the monochrome interior. Provides a touch of oomph.

The rather spacious bathroom on that floor is enclosed by wood frame and fluted glass. White tiled for the lower half & plastered wall for the upper half and the vanity features a basin on refurb vintage sewing machine legs. Pinch pleat cafe curtains were put up for privacy and it complements the other features of the bathroom completely.

The stairs lead us to the bedrooms. At the landing, we’d see the original structure of the house, exposed. The plaster has been carefully peeled off to reveal the great looking red bricks. Part of the ceiling has been opened up to expose the roof rafters. There are 2 terraces, one in front which is sheltered and the one at the back, attached to the bedroom, is completely open where you can get a good tan!

The original windows and grilles in the bedrooms were restored and retained. The house wouldn’t look the same without them.

Loving the monochromatic color scheme.
